Choose the System That Works for You

SportsGrass is changing the way people look at artificial turf fields. With new technology in hand, it is important to know what systems are available and which is the best for you, your facility, and your athletes.

Below we introduce the new system driven by enhanced technology we call Product-Based systems. We also look at what has been used in the industry for the past two decades: Infill-Based systems. And with the growth of indoor training and sports, this has given rise to a line of turf products known as Indoor systems.

Let’s take a closer look at the artificial turf solutions available to determine which system, and then product, best fits your needs.

Product-Based System

The new Product-Based systems use emerging technology to bring safety and performance to a new level. Previous systems relied on excessive amounts of infill and lesser product, which provided adequate safety but also had problems with performance and infill flyout.

Our Product-Based solutions more closely mimic natural grass by using more grass fibers and less infill. Combined with the premium backing, this system is able to provide something previously not available: more realistic play, enhanced performance, and reduced infill—without sacrificing safety.

SportsGrass® Dense blade construction with thatch fibers
Field markings Whites that look white, not gray
Reduced infill
1" Staples One inch, 1/4" crown galvanized staples spaced every 3"-4"
Concrete anchor
Treated lumber nailer board
1"-1.5" of small, finish grade aggregate
4"-6" of large course angular stone mix
Existing sub-base
Premium three-layer backing

Safety: the proof is in the testing.

Infill-Based System

These are the commonly known system in the industry today. They are notorious for large amounts of infill, less grass fibers, and light urethane backing.

Infill-Based Systems are the standard in the industry and have been for the past two decades. While they are safe and effective, they have always been plagued with performance issues. The excessive amount of infill required on these systems can create issues such as leg fatigue, infill flyout, restricted drainage, and lagging performance.

A key advantage of Infill-Based Systems is a lower cost due to the fact that there is less product being used.

Fewer blades and typically no thatch
Field markings Whites tend to look gray due to infill
Large amounts of Infill
1" Staples One inch, 1/4" crown galvanized staples spaced every 3"-4"
Concrete anchor
Treated lumber nailer board
1"-1.5" of small, finish grade aggregate
4"-6" of large course angular stone mix
Existing sub-base
Thin backing

Indoor System

To provide for clean, low maintenance facilities, Indoor Systems use little to no infill. The thick premium backing is a critical component of the indoor systems as are dense, low pile construction, and quality turf fibers.

Little or no infill Based on product and use
Tufted or inlaid colors for lines
SportsGrass® Indoor system short, dense pile
1” Staples One inch, 1/4” crown, galvanized staples, spaced every 3”–4”
Concrete anchor
Treated lumber nailer board
ShockPro™ performance pad underlayment
Premium three-layer backing
